Summary

Clinical-research themes address how sex steroids and peptide releasing-factors regulate hormone secretion by the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and target tissues. Specific projects include CRU-based and NIH-supported investigations in four complementary areas:

(i) mechanisms by which estrogen stimulates growth hormone (GH), and IGF-I secretion in postmenopausal women;
(ii) how testosterone stimulates GH and IGF-I secretion in men;
(iii) sex-steroid control of ACTH and cortisol secretion in men and women; and
(iv) deterioration of GnRH-LH-testosterone secretion in older men.

Studies involve normal volunteers and selected patient subgroups.
