ABOUT DR. McCORMICKProfessor: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dr. Daniel McCormick is the founder of the Mayo Peptide Synthesis Facility ( est. 1984) and Co-director of Mayo Proteomics Research Center. Doctor McCormick is a protein biochemist with special interest in the structural and immunological analysis of proteins. In addition, Doctor McCormick received his post-doctoral training (1981-1984) in the field of peptide synthesis by Merrifield solid phase methods, and currently uses this method to explore the antigenic structure of proteins ( i.e., T- and B-cell epitopes). Dr. McCormick holds six U.S. patents and two international patents, with his latest patent describing the repression of gene expression by Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) oligomers (US Patent # 6, 743, 627). He has published over 110 peer-reviewed publications in the field of protein structure analysis, and in the application of peptide synthesis to examine the structural function of protein ligands, receptors, and T-cell epitopes. Currently, Dr. McCormick is an active member of eight scientific societies including the American Chemical Society (ACS), the American Association of Immunologists (AAI), the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), and the Protein Society. In addition, Dr. McCormick also serves as an ad hoc referee for several journals, which include The Journal of Peptide Research, Protein Science, and Analytical Biochemistry. |
