ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Immunology is comprised of 18 laboratories that interact in a variety of shared interest groups. There is a strong cancer theme in the Department.
THE FUTURE
The field of Immunology is coming of age. We are entering a time when fundamental understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing immune recognition, modulation of immune polarity, immunologic memory, recruitment of immune cells to sites of inflammation.
HISTORY OF RESEARCH
The Department of Immunology is the oldest freestanding Immunology Department in the country, formed as a basic science department as part of the inception of Mayo Medical School in the early 1970's under the leadership of Dr. Thomas Tomasi.
