Genetics of Late-Onset Alzheimer's Disease

In this collaborative study — which includes Neill R. Graff-Radford, M.D.; Steven G. Younkin, M.D., Ph.D.; Nilufer Taner, M.D., Ph.D.; Ronald C. Petersen, M.D., Ph.D.; and Dennis W. Dickson, M.D. — Mayo Clinic in Florida has collected data from more than 1,000 people with late-onset Alzheimer's disease and from more than 1,000 cognitively normal controls.

This series has been combined with a large series from Mayo Clinic in Rochester and an autopsy series collected by Dr. Dickson.

Mayo Clinic in Florida has used this series in a genome-wide association study, as well as in collaborations with several national and international groups that contributed to the discovery of some of the genes now linked to Alzheimer's disease.

Mayo Clinic in Florida is also collaborating with a large national consortium to search for late-onset Alzheimer's disease genes in African-Americans. Mayo's campus in Florida has also been developing a growing collection of African-American cases and controls.
