OVERVIEWNew diagnostic techniques, drugs and interventions are continually being introduced into cardiology and vascular medicine, and Mayo experts work at the forefront of these advances through their research programs. A number of subspecialty clinics bring together specialists to focus their expertise on each patient's problem. HISTORYCardiovascular medicine has a rich history in introducing major scientific and technological breakthroughs in the past 25 years. In spite of the great advances, however, heart disease continues to be the number one killer of men and women in the United States and the leading cause of death in the entire world. In order to address this public health problem, the Division of Cardiovascular Disease has developed a program in cardiovascular research that aims at fostering peer-reviewed, extramurally-funded research as well as training, mentoring, and career development in research. |
RESEARCH PROGRAMToday, we are proud to have a core of basic scientists, clinician investigators, and population scientists spearheading programmatic research in the many areas. |
