Careers and EducationTraining positionsThe laboratory of Vitaly Herasevich, M.D., Ph.D., and Brian W. Pickering, M.B., B.Ch., is currently recruiting for its research trainee program. This program provides a solid mentored research experience that includes both didactics and hands-on, one-on-one mentoring. Each trainee is assigned a space in the department, a computer and a clinical research project to complete during his or her time in the program. As part of the mentored research experience, trainees will also take formal classes on how to use various computer programs and search MEDLINE and electronic journals. Individualized coaching is provided on scientific writing, poster presentations and conducting scientific analysis. If applicable, trainees also obtain advice on residency and fellowship applications. Trainees will typically produce three to five abstracts as first authors. Travel and presentation expenses for accepted work are covered. There are also opportunities for authorship on review articles, case reports, book chapters and clinical images. Research abstracts are submitted to the major meetings at which Drs. Herasevich and Pickering routinely present:
Drs. Herasevich and Pickering have hosted trainees from Belarus, China, Ethiopia, India, Pakistan, South Korea and Turkey. As no stipend is provided, trainees or their institutions are responsible for expenses. Selected trainees will have an opportunity to apply for a research fellow position after six months.
