OVERVIEW

Research has always been a core component of the activities within the Department of Anesthesiology. This tradition continues as more department staff than ever are involved in research activities. Major funding resources include the National Institutes of Health as well as support from industry and foundations. We have diverse research interests ranging from very basic investigations of anesthetic effects on subcellular function to more clinical projects directed toward goals that will have a direct impact on patient care, such as reducing the need for perioperative transfusions and improving the management of chronic pain.
