ROBERT AND ARLENE KOGOD BIOLOGY OF AGING SYMPOSIUM

The Robert and Arlene Kogod Program on Aging will present its first symposium dedicated to research on aging in 2005. It will be held Wednesday, June 22 through Thursday noon, June 23 in Geffen Auditorium on the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus.

The scientific program will feature national and international speakers who will address the biology of aging from the molecular to the clinical level. It will be multidisciplinary and include Mayo Clinic faculty engaged in aging research initiatives.

Symposium Description and Objectives

The objectives of the Biology of Aging Symposium are to:

  • Understand the advances in aging research
  • Contemplate career opportunities in age-related research
  • Participate in organ-specific disease discussions on age-related functional and physiologic decline
  • Characterize the genetics of aging (as is presently known) and its impact on clinical care

To achieve these objectives, the program will explore three areas of aging research in half-day sessions. These include the Physiology of Aging, From Bench to Bedside devoted to translational research in clinical topics, and Age, Genes and the Environment.

On the first day of the symposium, the Kogod Distinguished Lecture will be given during Medical Grand Rounds. The presenter will be Nils-Goran Larsson, MD, PhD, from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
