SummaryOur clinical and translational research program focuses on several interrelated areas broadly relating to acute and chronic liver injury.
The major research themes involve studying the clinical effectiveness of functional hepatic imaging in human subjects with acute and chronic liver injury. Initial work in this area was sponsored by the Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA) award in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health, and specifically focused on magnetic resonance elastography. These studies are done in collaboration with members from the Center for Advanced Imaging Research as well as the Departments of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering, Radiology, Pathology, and Biostatistics. In addition to continued work on MRE, we are currently studying the comparative effectiveness of elastography imaging and serum markers compared to liver biopsy in patients with chronic viral hepatitis and fatty liver disease. This work is being funded by the National Institutes of Health through support from the America Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA).
